Logistics and Supply ChainTransport, Fleet and Distribution Management
Transport is usually the largest controllable cost in an African supply chain, and it is shaped by fuel price, border documentation and road conditions that vary enormously between corridors on the same route. This course covers controlling it. Delegates work through fleet composition and the own against contract decision, cost per kilometre and the true cost model that includes tyres, maintenance, driver, licensing and depreciation rather than fuel alone. Route and load planning follow, including backhaul and the empty running that destroys margin. Driver management, hours and safety are covered. Vehicle maintenance and availability are addressed. Telematics and fuel control are covered, including theft, which is a material line in this region. The course closes on distribution network design and on measuring cost to serve by customer.
