Maintenance is measured on cost and judged on breakdowns, which pushes a department towards deferring work until the deferral becomes the failure. This course reframes the function. Delegates work through maintenance strategy and the mix of run to failure, preventive, condition based and design out, chosen per asset rather than per department. Asset criticality assessment follows, since not everything deserves the same attention. Work management is covered end to end: identification, planning, scheduling, execution and close out, with the planning step given the weight it earns. Spares and stores policy are addressed, including the parts worth holding and the ones that are not. Maintenance data, history and the reports that support a decision follow. Contractor management is covered. Budgeting and defending a maintenance budget are addressed. The course closes on performance measures and on improving reliability rather than only restoring it.
