Laboratory

Sample Management, Chain of Custody, and LIMS Administration

A laboratory's technical excellence counts for little if a sample's identity or history cannot be defended when it matters most, whether in a court case, a regulatory audit, or an insurance dispute. This course covers sample receipt, labeling, storage, and defensible chain of custody documentation, alongside practical administration of a laboratory information management system. Participants also examine how digital LIMS workflows reduce transcription error compared with paper based logs still common in smaller facilities.

Course objectives

  • Design a sample receipt and labeling process that prevents misidentification
  • Establish and document chain of custody for forensic, legal, or high value samples
  • Configure and administer core LIMS modules including sample tracking and reporting
  • Apply data integrity principles to electronic records within a LIMS environment
  • Manage sample storage, retention, and disposal in line with regulatory requirements

Who should attend

  • Sample reception and logistics coordinators
  • Forensic and legal laboratory personnel
  • LIMS administrators and laboratory informatics staff
  • Quality assurance officers responsible for data integrity
