Finance and TreasuryRolling Forecasts and Driver Based Budgeting
An annual budget is a set of assumptions fixed at one moment and defended for twelve months, which in markets where the exchange rate and commodity prices move sharply means the organisation is steering by a number everybody knows is wrong. This course covers the alternative. Delegates work through identifying the drivers that actually move the result, building a model on those drivers rather than on last year plus a percentage, and the rolling horizon that keeps a forecast forward looking. Forecast accuracy measurement is covered, since a forecast nobody scores does not improve. The behavioural change is treated directly, because a rolling forecast fails where people still defend an annual target. The course closes on linking forecasts to resource decisions and on the reporting that follows.
