Risk, Compliance and AMLRisk Appetite, Tolerance and Key Risk Indicators
A risk appetite statement that nobody can measure is a document, not a management tool, and most say the organisation has a low appetite for everything, which tells a decision maker nothing. This course covers making appetite operational. Delegates work through articulating appetite differently by risk type, since an organisation may accept substantial market risk and no safety risk at all, and expressing it in quantities that can be compared against actual exposure. Tolerance and the escalation that triggers at a threshold are covered. Key risk indicator selection is the core of the course, including the difference between an indicator that leads and one that merely reports. Calibration, thresholds and dashboards follow. The course closes on board reporting and on what to do when appetite is exceeded.
