Financial Management for Non Financial Managers

This course equips managers, engineers, and technical specialists who carry budget or project responsibility with the financial literacy to read accounts, challenge figures, and make sound resource decisions without a finance background. Case work draws on both private enterprise and public agency scenarios common across Southern and East Africa, including donor funded projects and parastatal operations. Participants leave able to interpret their own department's numbers rather than depend on the finance office.

Course objectives

  • Interpret the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement without prior accounting training
  • Apply cost behaviour and break even analysis to day to day departmental decisions
  • Use key financial ratios to assess the health of a business unit or project
